Southern Bays Tour

Isolation, Views and Cheese

After a pickup at the wharf and 40 minute scenic drive to our home base at Birdlings Flat, we will get you suited up and ready to go.  A bit of practice on local gravel tracks to get the feel of the bikes and then it is up the road to Little River and on to the iconic Hilltop Hotel for a first photo stop.  Lunch stop is at Duvauchelle looking back up the harbour, then to the cheese factory at Barrys Bay where you can sample the cheese while watching it being made.  Head around Akaroa Harbour to Wainui on the opposite side of the harbour from Akaroa for a great view of your ship. Then we head offroad up to the top of the Southern crater rim for magnificent views of Akaroa Harbour, the Southern Bays & Pacific Ocean.  Take in sweeping vistas of the Peninsula, Kaitorete Spit, out over the Canterbury Plains and all the way to the Southern Alps and Seaward Kaikouras.  Look out for road going sheep or cows as we go.  Time permitting we will take a run down into the gorgeous Tumbledown Bay where there are normally more seals than people in the water, before heading back to base and getting you back to the wharf on time.
